Prof. Dan Luo (senior member, IEEE) graduated from the School of Precision Instruments and Optoelectronic Engineering at Tianjin University with a bachelor's and graduate degree in Electronic Science and Technology and Physical Electronics in 2004 and 2007. He received his Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, 2012. From 2012 to 2013, he was a research fellow in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, NTU. He joined the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering of Southern University of Science and Technology as an Assistant Professor in 2013, and he was promoted to an Associate Professor in 2018 and a Full Professor in 2024. His research interests include liquid crystal optoelectronic devices, energy-saving smart windows, biochemical optical sensors, augmented reality displays, and liquid crystal elastomer actuators. He has published more than 140 papers in Science Advances, Light: Science & Applications, Science Bulletin, Advanced Optical Materials, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Journal of Materials Chemistry C, and Optics Express and so on. He has citation of more than 3900 times and H-index of 34. He has applied for 18 patents and has been authorized 8 patents.

Prof. Luo was the recipient of Otto Lehmann Award, Germany, 2011; Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad, 2011; SPIE Scholarship in Optics and Photonics, 2012; IEEE Photonic Society Graduate Student Fellowships, 2012; Southern University of Science and Technology Excellent Mentor Award, 2016; Southern University of Science and Technology Young Research Award, 2017; Southern University of Science and Technology Excellent Teaching Award, 2017; and Shenzhen Advanced Educator, 2018. He was also the recipient of Talent of Peacock Program B, Shenzhen; and the "Outstanding Youth" project of the Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Foundation in 2020.
